Summer 2010 has been very difficult for our family. First, Sue’s father, David Lamm, went home to be with the Lord and then my father, Lloyd Rockwell, also received his heavenly reward just a few weeks ago. As many of you know the grieving process brings many emotions. You have shock, denial, sadness, loneliness and many other feelings that come when someone leaves this side of glory. I have heard it said many times, “I don’t know how people make it when they lose a loved one without the Lord,” and I couldn’t agree more.
A scripture that has been giving me strength and hope during these trying times is Psalms 107:19-22 where it says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.”
As a pastor, I have used this scripture a hundred times in my messages through the years but for the first time I really understand what complete healing means. The bible says, “He sent forth His word and healed them,” which I’ve interpreted a physical healing, and there’s no doubt in my mind God heals our bodies, but I want you to clearly see the underlined part of this verse, where it says, “he (God) rescued them from the grave.”
This means God not only heals our bodies physically, but he also heals and rescues us from the pit of the grave. Talk about a marvelous healing. Wow! Because of my relationship with God, ‘there ain’t no grave gonna keep this body down.’ I don’t have to fear dying because “I know my Redeemer lives and He’s already conquered death and the grave. Hallelujah! Sue and I had fathers who knew the Lord and because of their relationship with Jesus, they are now both walking streets of gold. THEY HAVE RECEIVED THEIR HEALING!
We also want to say, a big “Thank You!” to our church family who has stood with us during this time. Your cards, words of love, meals, prayers, and generosity have overwhelmed us and brought healing to our hearts. You are the best church any pastors could ever want. We love & appreciate you.
